I crave for a cool, sweet luxurious dessert
Made from the cow’s milk and frozen water;
Straight from the sources because the eternal spring
Loves when the birds sing organically.
Classics like vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate
With different flavors like arroz con leche and rompope
Are on display for the public eye to satisfy
And use their extra quetzales to purchase.
I tend to ponder about the people
Who weren’t able to taste sweetness
As the city wanted them to be bitter
As they were starving for golden coins.
However, I did see a worker from the ice cream
Shop distributing samples to sweltering people,
Cure them from the bitterness they have lived;
I was surprised like sprinkles on my cone.
The colors around me started to amplify.
I’m not sure how I needed to react.
So I gave the cashier some coins and said,
“Go treat yourself with ice cream.”
